Silent Film Online, one of several streaming media subscription databases from Alexander Street Press, recently added more videos to their library. This database includes access to full recordings of films by Fritz Lang, D.W. Griffith, Charlie Chaplin, F.W. Murnau, Georges Méliès and many others, as well as short documentary footage of scenes of historical occasions and everyday life from the early 1900s (including Queen Victoria’s funeral in 1901). Two classic examples are Metropolisdirected by Fritz Lang, 1927, and Piccadilly, directed by E.A. Dupont, 1929. Try the Advanced Search across all film content in Alexander Street Press.
