Server Infrastructure

The Systems Infrastructure and Integrations Services unit of Library IT has been historically responsible for the deployment and ongoing management of the underlying virtualization infrastructure that hosts many critical library systems.  There is a second smaller implementation of this type of infrastructure within the library hosted the Beinecke Library Technology and Digital Assets department. At present, components of both implementations are close to end-of-life which has prompted discussion around a next generation solution.  In an effort to reduce cost and complexity as well as redirect staff resources to other critical library initiatives, a new multi-year project with Yale ITS has been kicked-off to transition approximately 50 existing servers to ITS infrastructure and decommission the two existing implementations.

A pilot group of 5 servers have been selected for migration starting May 2014 and ending Summer 2014.  Plans to migrate the remaining servers have yet to be determined, but a project end date is scheduled tentatively for summer of 2015.
