SharePoint Online is a cloud-based application framework and platform developed by Microsoft for integrating intranet, content, and document management. With assistance from Yale ITS and the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Library IT is currently piloting this tool. We are in the process of developing a set of guidelines and best practices including definition of the user experience, search defaults, site collection configuration, and administration. It is expected that SharePoint 365 will be the next iteration of our internal document management system replacing our current SharePoint 2007 instance. Migration of departmental sites will begin this summer and continue through fiscal year 2015.
