Scholarly Publishing

The Yale University Archives seeks to collect documentation concerning offices whose primary activity is to produce scholarly monographs, journals, and periodicals in any medium or format. Specific topics of interest include:

  • Mission and goals
  • Governance
  • Relationships with authors
  • Publishing, marketing and distribution strategies
  • Innovations in design and/or production
  • New policy, procedure, initiative development in any of the above areas

Archival Records

Examples of records of interest to the Archives, regardless of format:

  • Annual reports
  • Correspondence
  • Copyright records
  • Policies and procedures
  • Press releases
  • Publications and websites (see Depositing Official Yale Publications)

Office of record

Yale's individual publishing offices maintain record copy documentation of publishing at the university. Individual offices that are not responsible for the creation of such published works, but that maintain duplicates or related materials, should destroy these files after they are no longer needed.
