Order Reproductions

The Irving S. Gilmore Music Library provides broad access to its collection materials for personal research use, teaching, and educational purposes, under the fair use clause of United States copyright law. Copies of documents and photographs are provided as digital files. Low resolution copies are provided free of charge, unless the staff time required to fulfill the request exceeds an hour. Staff will provide a quote for the remaining work needed in the event that the request requires more than an hour of staff time. High resolution copies are $10 per image. If the scope of the request goes beyond the current resources of the library, the library will quote a price for vendor reproduction.

Members of the Yale community (students, faculty, and staff) receive first preference for all reproduction requests. Depending on the nature, quantity, and location of the materials requested, the time needed to fulfill the request generally requires two to four weeks. In some cases, certain formats require conservation treatment before digitizing. This can necessarily extend the time needed to fill the request.

Reproduction requests are submitted by completing a Reproduction Request Form, in which the requester agrees to comply with the fair use guidelines and principles as determined by United States copyright law. Materials may not be further copied or distributed without direct authorization from copyright holders.

Photography

On-site researchers are allowed to take their own photographs of rare materials at no charge, provided that they do not use a flash. The use of these photos is governed by the copyright policies below.
