Judaic Studies Reading & Reference Room
The Judaic Studies Reading & Reference Room is on the third floor of Sterling Memorial Library. The office of the Librarian for Judaic Studies can be accessed through the reading room. It contains a Judaic Studies reference collection therefore books in the room do not circulate. The circulating collection can be found in the library stacks. The reading room is open during library hours and is available to everyone in the Yale community for study. The reading room also serves as a meeting space within the library for teaching and collaboration. The space is used primarily to support scheduled classes, programs, and events related to Judaic Studies and these activities take precedence over other requests. Additionally, this space supports the work of the Yale University Library, serving as meeting space for committees and working groups. When not in use for these activities, the rooms will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to students. Students will need to vacate the rooms during planned events. A schedule will be posted in the room indicating when the space is reserved.
How to schedule
All requests to schedule events must be reviewed and approved by library staff before they are final. Requests will be approved during regular business hours Monday-Friday, so plan in advance. SML 335B (Judaic Studies Reading & Reference Room) is equipped with a ceiling-mounted projector, screen, and podium with computer hook-up. A white board is also available. The room features eight tables (typically configured into one large table) and window shades to reduce light for improved viewing of projected content. The capacity is 20 people.
Users are responsible for computer or laptop set up and making any arrangements for additional audio/visual equipment in the classroom. Users are expected to treat the classroom facilities with respect, return them to their typical set up after use, and report any problems immediately. If participants from non-Yale institutions will be in attendance, plan accordingly to make your own arrangements for their access into the Yale-community section of SML.
