Not all of 008 fields are required. The mandatory 008 fields are:
- Dates. The Type of date code and the date or dates in 008 will be based on 264 ‡c, which in turn will be based on the date of publication found on the resource being cataloged
- If there is a single date, use code "s"
- If there is a range of publication dates, use "m"
- If the resource is a reprint, use "r"
- For a range of approximate dates, use "q"
- Place of Publication. Select from the pull-down menu.
- Language. Select from the pull-down menu.
