2. Photocopies and Print On Demand Reproductions

Updated August 2016

Photocopies: "print reproductions that are typically printed using xerographic techniques and for which the source is a physical document."--LC-PCC PS for 1.11

Print on Demand (POD) Reproductions: "print reproductions that are not printed until an order is received, are printed using digital techniques, and for which the source is a digital document such as a PDF file."--LC-PCC PS for 1.11 Print reproductions of digitized copies of books owned by the Yale Library produced by Etherington Conservation Services at the request of the Preservation Department are examples of POD reproductions.

Follow the provider neutral approach described in the LC-PCC PS for 1.11 when cataloging photocopies and POD reproductions. But do not use this approach for photocopies or POD reproductions of book chapters or journal articles. In case of doubt, do not use the provider-neutral approach.

Provider-neutral approach:

  • Clone the record from the record for the original resource

Leader

  • Record the cataloging form associated with the record for the original resource:
    • i (ISBD) for a record derived from an RDA record
    • a for a record derived from an AACR2 record, etc.
