The Yale Film Archive has more than 7,000 film prints and negatives in its collection, many of which represent the unique original materials of filmmakers, and some of which have been preserved by the Yale Film Archive. A few of the collections within the larger Film Archive holdings are profiled below.
The Yale Film Archive has more than 150 published screenplays. The collection started in 2014 with over 70 screenplays donated by Yale alumna, screenwriter, and faculty member Camille Thomasson. In creating the first circulating screenplay collection at the Film Archive, Ms. Thomasson hopes to foster a greater understanding of the screenwriter’s role in the history of film and in the filmmaking process. We share that goal and encourage you to explore this immensely valuable collection.
The Yale Film Archive's video collection now includes over 40,000 DVDs, over 5,000 Blu-ray discs, nearly 6,000 VHS tapes, and hundreds of LaserDiscs, with new titles added almost daily. It spans the history of cinema and includes work from over 160 countries. It also includes nearly 3,000 items from the field of television.
The Yale Film Archive's mission is to advance film culture and support teaching, learning, and research at Yale through collection, preservation, access, and exhibition.
