Reproduction Policies
POLICIES REGARDING REPRODUCTION OF MATERIALS IN SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
The Haas Family Arts Library Special Collections (ALSC) will reproduce collection materials, in compliance with donor stipulations and with the fair use clause of the United States copyright law, when such reproduction can be done without injury to collection materials. Please note that the Library's sale of a reproduction does not imply an authorization to publish it. The reader is responsible for obtaining any necessary permission from the owners of a work’s copyright in order to publish texts and facsimiles. Our policy prohibits reproduction of an entire collection. Reproductions made for or by researchers are for their own personal use and are not to be sold or to be deposited in another repository.
ALSC permits readers to photograph materials, without use of flash or tripod, once they have signed a release form. Researchers who prefer a direct scan of the materials, when conditions permit, may place a request as follows:

Please provide an email address or telephone number so ALSC staff can contact you to confirm (or clarify) your order. Prepayment is required for orders to be mailed. Payment is required at the time of pickup. We accept cash (exact change is preferred), checks made payable to “Yale University Library” or credit cards (MasterCard, Visa). All payments must be made in U.S. dollars, and checks must be drawn on a U.S. bank.
Due to the volume of requests and staffing constraints, ALSC staff can spend no more than one hour assisting patrons in identifying materials to be reproduced and in preparing order forms. Patrons who submit reproduction requests requiring more than one hour of staff time will be asked to do the additional work in person to identify materials or to hire our staff for research assistance at the cost of $20 per hour.
WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproductions. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
WARNING CONCERNING SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS
Some archival materials may contain Social Security numbers. Researchers must agree by signing a form that they will not record, reproduce, or disclose any Social Security number that may be included in ALSC materials. Violation of this Agreement may result in the loss of research privileges at Yale University.
