Access and Use
A staff member is always present in the Microform Reading Room to assist you with your needs. We are happy to help you locate the materials you need and learn how to use our equipment.
All holders of Yale ID cards may use the Microform Reading Room. Visiting Researchers can also use the collection but must register first with the Privileges Office, located in Sterling Memorial Library. More information about Library Access is available here.
Researchers should note that some of the microforms are held in the Library Shelving Facility (LSF), and same-day access cannot be guaranteed. Holders of Yale ID cards may make advance requests for LSF materials through Orbis. To do this, look up the item in Orbis, click on "Place Requests" and have the item delivered to Sterling Memorial Library (SML). When the item arrives, usually in one or two days, pick up the item at the self-serve hold shelf in Sterling Memorial Library and take it to the microform room.
We regret that staffing levels do not permit us to accept individuals' requests for look-ups or copies. Most microforms circulate via Interlibrary Loan; they are otherwise non-circulating. For information about borrowing, please contact the Interlibrary Loan Department at 203-432-1789 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
