Guide to Searching the Yale Film Archive 35mm and 16mm Collections

The 35mm and 16mm film holdings of the Yale Film Archive can be searched through the Library’s catalog. We recommend using Quicksearch to search for film holdings. If you are interested in accessing material in this collection, or if you can't locate a specific print in the catalog, contact Archive & Special Collections Manager Brian Meacham via email.

Quicksearch Instructions:

  • To search all film prints in our collection, choose Advanced Search and enter "Archival Film Collection" in "Locations" (or use this shortcut to browse the film prints).
  • To search our 35mm prints, choose Advanced Search, entering "35 mm" in "All Fields" and "Archival Film Collection" in "Location" (or use this shortcut to browse the 35mm collection).
  • To search our 16mm prints, choose Advanced Search, entering "16 mm" in "All Fields" and "Archival Film Collection" in "Location" (or use this shortcut to browse the 16mm collection).
  • To search within these collections, use the additional search fields to narrow down your search.

Here is what you should enter to search for 35mm prints of Spike Lee films (note that the results will include films in which Lee held a variety of creative roles, not just films he directed):
