Guide to Searching the Yale Film Archive 35mm and 16mm Collection
The 35mm and 16mm film holdings of the Yale Film Archive can be searched through the Library’s catalog, using either Quicksearch or Orbis. If you are interested in accessing material in this collection, or if you can't locate a specific print in the catalog, contact Archive & Special Collections Manager Brian Meacham via email.
Quicksearch:
- To see our 35mm holdings, enter "35 mm" in the Search field and select "Call Number" in the drop-down menu (or use this shortcut).
- To see the our 16mm holdings, enter "16 mm" in the Search field and select "Call Number" in the drop-down menu (or use this shortcut).
- When searching by title, with Yale Film Archive chosen as the location, records with the phrase "Contact Film Archive" are film prints, unless they include "videovhs" in the call number. The specific format can be found in the record's Physical Description section.

- To see the our 16mm holdings, enter "16 mm" in the Search field, select "Call Number (Local)" in the drop-down menu, and select "Movies / DVD" in the Quick Limits drop-down menu.
- To search by title, enter the title in the Search field, select "Title" in the drop-down menu, and select “Movies / DVD” in the Quick Limits drop-down menu. Records with the phrase "Contact Film Archive" are film prints, unless they include "videovhs" in the call number. The specific format can be found in the record's Physical Description section.
