Charge
Facilitate a community of practice in Yale University Libraries and Museums (YUL/M) special collections to develop competencies, share solutions, and grow a network of users and practitioners acquiring, managing, preserving, and providing access to born-digital archival materials. Advocate for needs prioritized by the community of practice. Advise product owners on user stories for recommended enhancement of pertinent tools and systems.

In Scope

  • Support and facilitate a community of practice, and based on work with the community of practice, determine training needs and advise on necessary resources.
  • Provide guidance, education, and information relevant to units acquiring, managing, and providing access to born-digital archives.
  • Provide guidance to decision makers when decisions will impact born-digital archival work.
  • Develop a high-level curriculum about born-digital archiving.
  • Consult with departments and steering committees on local born-digital trainings.
  • Consult with other appropriate advisory groups when born-digital considerations intersect with their work. We anticipate consulting with AAG and DSCAG to further define the scope of each advisory group.

Out of Scope

  • Operational tasks of Yale University Libraries and Museums (YUL/M) special collections, including decisions governing operational tasks and workflows, and developing and leading training for staff to complete operational tasks (e.g. onboarding or training required to complete day-to-day tasks)
  • As an advisory group, we are not a decision-making body.
  • Advising on digitized and reformatted materials or digitization processes.

Responsibilities

  • Build and facilitate a community of practice to develop competencies, share solutions, and grow a network of users and practitioners working with born-digital archives. May include activities such as:
  • Office hours, trainings, and events
  • Communication plans (listserv, forum)
  • Resource compiling
  • Advise product owners on user stories for recommended enhancements.
  • Advocate for enhancements identified and prioritized by the community of practice
  • May sponsor interest groups to research a defined topic, develop a specialized workflow or technology-based solution, or facilitate space for work focused on a specific area and within the scope specified in this document. The sponsorship role of BDAAG may include maintaining documentation, communicating expectations and liaising with other groups, and maintaining an interest group application process.
  • If needed, provide suggestions to Library IT regarding infrastructure, architecture, and security
  • Review BDAAG’s charge to continue defining the scope of roles and responsibilities among advisory groups and operational units.
