Microform Reading Room

Access and Use

Service

A staff member is always present in the Microform Reading Room to assist you with your needs. We are happy to help you locate the materials you need and learn how to use our equipment.

Eligibility

All holders of Yale ID cards may use the Microform Reading Room. Visiting researchers can also use the collection but must register first with the Privileges Office, located in Sterling Memorial Library. More information about Library Access is available in our Borrowing Guide.

LSF Transfers

Researchers should note that some of the microforms are held in the Library Shelving Facility (LSF), and same-day access cannot be guaranteed. Those researchers with the appropriate access may make advance requests for LSF materials through Orbis. For information on how to request material from LSF, seeĀ this guide. Be sure to select Sterling Circ Desk as your pick-up location. Items will then be delivered directly to the microform reading room.

Research Requests

We regret that staffing levels do not permit us to accept individuals' requests for look-ups. If you know the location, roll, and title of desired material, however, digital copies may be obtained through our Scan and Deliver service, available to current Yale University faculty, students, and staff.

For non-Yale affiliates, most microforms circulate via Interlibrary Loan; they are otherwise non-circulating. Contact your local or university library for their policies on using Interlibrary Loan.
