Borrowing
Yale's circulation policies are designed to permit prompt and equitable access to library materials.
- Registered full-time students, faculty, staff and some affiliates of Yale University may borrow circulating Arts Library materials.
- Non-Yale visitors may use Arts Library materials onsite during open hours. Library borrowing privileges are available to non-Yale visitors or researchers. To borrow materials from the library collections, non-Yale visitors must register in person at the Privileges Office located in Sterling Memorial Library, open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. On Saturdays, assistance with privileges is offered at the Sterling Memorial Library Information Desk from 10:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
Circulation
There are over 425,000 volumes in the Haas Art Library’s collections in a few locations on Yale’s campus.

CIRCULATING
Art, Architecture, and Drama collections have the same loan periods as the rest of Yale Library. The service desk closes 15 minutes before the library closes.
- 4 months for undergraduate students and affiliates.
- Academic year loan for senior undergraduates (due May 31 after graduation).
- One year for graduate students, faculty, and staff.
- All borrowed materials are subject to recall. Recalled items must be returned within 10 days.
NON-CIRCULATING
All Arts Library Special Collection materials and items designated with an orange spine label are available for in-library use only and may not be checked out. Book scanners and flat bed scanners are available for digital scans.

- Current periodicals and bound journals
- Catalogues raisonnés and multi-volume sets
- Folios
- Arts Library Special Collections (ALSC)
- School of Drama theses and dissertations, as well as production scripts, are housed in Arts Library Special Collections. Most are shelved offsite at the LSF.
Offsite at other locations on Yale’s campus
- Materials at the Library Shelving Facility (LSF), Bass Library, and Sterling Memorial Library have the same loan periods as the rest of Yale Library.
- Periodicals, reference materials, catalogues raisonnés, and some other materials are restricted to in-building use only but can be delivered to any Yale library on campus.
Fines
- All Yale Library patrons are subject to fines for recalls, reserves, and lost materials (overdue by more than 30 days).
- The lost item fee for Haas Arts Library materials overdue by more than 30 days is $130.
- Fines for late return of materials on closed reserves are $3 per hour per book.
- All borrowed materials are subject to recall. Recalled items must be returned within 10 days.
- Fines for overdue recalled items are $2 per day, to a maximum fine of $25 per book.

Renewals
- Yale students, staff, and affiliates with valid Yale NetIDs may renew books online via My Account.
