The Yale University Archives seeks to collect documentation concerning student athletics at Yale. Specific topics of interest include:
- Development, and existence of teams and sports (intercollegiate, intramural, and club)
- Accomplishments of varsity teams and athletes at Yale
- Compliance with NCAA policies and standards
- Interest and involvement of Yale alumni and the local community in Yale athletics
- Role of athletics in student life
- New policy, procedure, initiative development in any of the above areas

- Game and season statistical reports
- Game programs
- Photographs and audio-visual resources
- Policies and procedures
- Press releases and media guides for varsity sports

- Team rosters
- Year-end reports (statistical and narrative) prepared by coaches of varsity sports
Office of record
The Yale Athletic Department, Yale College Dean's Office, and the Faculty Committee on Athletics maintain the record copy of documentation concerning student athletics.
