Special Collections at the Yale Divinity School Library include more than 6000 linear feet of archival material, archivally-treated pamphlet collections, and microform holdings. The Lin Collection is a curated set of photographs and printed materials visually documenting Chinese society through the eyes of Western missionaries. Consisting of ca. 900 original photographs, printed materials, rare books, and other artifactshis, the collection pays particular attention to cross-cultural interactions between China and the West, the growth of Christianity in China in the early 20th century, and the development of the indigenous Chinese church.
Special Collections at the Yale Divinity School Library include nearly 5000 linear feet of archival and manuscript material, as well as archivally-treated pamphlet collections, and extensive microfilm and microfiche holdings. The collections include personal and organizational papers, reports, pamphlets, and ephemera related to various aspects of religious history.
The Day Missions Collection developed from a core of materials donated by Professor George Edward Day in 1891. The collection originally focused on institutional histories, missionary biography, the annual reports of missionary societies, periodicals, and works prepared by missionaries for the use of the peoples of mission fields, as well as related literature in areas such as ethnology, geography, comparative religions, and linguistics.
Upon application, Special Collections grants permission to examine its holdings to qualified researchers, according to University Policies on Access and subject to whatever restrictions may have been placed by donors or depositors. We will not grantexclusive rights to examine holdings.
