History of The LSF

Yale  University opened its off-site library/shelving facility in the fall of 1998.  Conceived as a solution to on-going problems arising from overcrowding in the stacks of on-campus libraries, the original construction consisted of a processing area and a single six-aisle shelving module.  The facility has since undergone two expansions, the first of which was completed in 2002, resulting in five more shelving modules being added to the site (three of which are currently occupied by the Yale University Art Gallery).  In 2009, a second phase of expansion was undertaken, in which yet three m

The manuscript, which is written in Hebrew, contains instructions for the congregation and the cantor concerning the customs of prayer of the Jewish community of Trieste, Italy probably in the 19th century.  Each new subject is written in bold, Hebrew, block letters.

Richard Warren Jr: Preserving our Heritage of Recorded Sound

During his 45 year curatorial tenure, Richard Warren Jr. significantly expanded and enhanced Yale’s collection of cylinders, 78s, LPs, tape media, CDs, and related material, making Yale the home to one of the world’s largest and most prominent institutional repositories of recorded sound. While he worked with thousands of recordings in his lifetime, Richard nevertheless had his distinctive favorites. This often would become apparent while he was making digital transfers of original recordings, as he would pause, reflect, and comment on what touched him the most about certain renditions.
