Eli Express

Eli Express, Yale’s intra-library delivery service, was launched in September of 1994 and was conceived of as a means of providing patrons with an extra measure of convenience by allowing them to page, pickup and return books belonging to many of the Yale libraries at other designated units within the library system.  From its very inception, Eli Express proved to be a very popular enhancement to patron services.   The number of volumes transported by Eli Express rapidly grew over its first several years of operation, finally topping 200K items in 2003.

Shipping: Routine Shipments

Users of the shipping service provided by SML Shipping and Receiving (S&R) have always been required to complete a shipping memo and attach it to the item they wish to ship before placing it in the collection mail box located near the entrance to the Music Library. Now that all of the YUL’s shipping is handled by Yale Printing and Publishing (YPPS), this general procedure has not altered, but there are two small but significant changes to the shipping memo itself which users are now required to complete.

Receiving Incoming Materials

With the departure of LCS staff from the SML Shipping Room, it is imperative that we do all we can to insure incoming materials get directly into the hands of recipients rather than having them dropped in a central space in Sterling where no one will be available to receive, sort, and/or deliver them.  With this goal in mind, when placing orders or arranging for materials to be delivered to Sterling, staff should adopt one of four following approaches:
