Public workstations, BluePrint, scanners, etc.

Off-Campus Access (VPN) aka Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Yale VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a way to securely access Yale's restricted services and resources on the University or Yale-New Haven Hospital (Y-NHH) network from a non-Yale internet source. VPN is also required for remote access to on-campus workstations (via Remote Desktop Protocol [RDP]).

While VPN provides excellent network security, it should only be used from an appropriately secured computing device.

Multifactor Authentication (MFA)

If you use any application that requires the Central Authentication Services (CAS) or Yale's Virtual Private Network (VPN), then you will need to know more about Multifactor Authentication or MFA.

Your account at DUO Security, our MFA provider, is automatically created when your Yale affiliation is established.

Wi-Fi

YaleSecure, YaleGuest, Eduroam, or Yale wireless?

NetId and Password Management

Your NetID and password grant access to the campus network and many University systems, such as YaleSecure wifi, VPN, and printers. In order to use your NetID password, you must first activate your NetID with a PIN.

NetReg (Device Registration)

Yale requires that devices connecting to the University network (e.g., computers, mobile devices, game consoles, etc.) are registered to associate the device with a user. If you sometimes connect using wireless, and at other times use an ethernet cord, you will need to register both of MAC addresses for that device. Alternately, you may connect using the YaleSecure wireless network with no need to register.

Students need to register their devices annually. Faculty and staff usually only need to register their devices once.
