The Berg Fashion Library is regularly updated with new online-exclusive content, including this weather-appropriate entry on “Figure Skating Dress and Costume.” The article surveys the history of skating wear from the seventeenth century to Sonja Henie, the Ice Capades, and famous fashion designers outfitting Olympic skaters.

The September issue of Vogue is now available online via the library’s access to the ProQuest Vogue Archive. This database includes every issue of Vogue back to 1892—that’s more than 2700 issues spanning over 440,000 pages. Browse by date or search by keyword for designers, photographers, contributors, advertisers, etc.
Have you ever wondered what was behind the glass wall in the lower level of the Haas Family Arts Library? That is the reading room for Arts Library Special Collections (ALSC), where anyone who registers can view rare, unique, and valuable materials that belong to the Arts Library. . In order to facilitate knowledge about the treasures in ALSC, the staff has created a guide to the ALSC Archival Collections.
Artsy is an “online platform for discovering and collecting artwork.” Currently the site serves 50,000+ images by 11,000+ artists with a focus on contemporary art. In addition to the art market, Artsy strives to provide context to the artworks through essays, interviews with artists, curators, and scholars, and their Art Genome Project.
The Berg Fashion Library brings together scholarly books and journals as well as reference works and critical writings on fashion history and theory. Search or browse more than 8000 images by place, garment type, theme, etc. The August 2013 update includes new journal content, entries on steampunk and figure skating costume (among others), and 1000 additional images.
Robin Price, Printer & Publisher, recently released her latest finely printed book. Love in The Time of War contains 25 poems by Pulitzer Prize winner Yusef Komunyakaa. The poems are printed letterpress with silver ink onto individually painted, hand-dyed silk. Watch a video about the silk-staining process. The aluminum covers are etched with a pattern derived from camouflage fabric.
OnArchitecture is a new subscription online audiovisual database now available to the Yale Community featuring 100 videos of building projects, and 50 interviews with contemporary architects. It is a global scale project produced by Chilean architects embedded in 1086 architecture schools and almost 3 million architecture students throughout the world. OnArchitecture's video catalog includes interviews with prominent architects, records of their main works and installations, as well as interviews with the users of the spaces.
In August, the Getty released approximately 4,600 high-resolution images for public use. It is the first release in their Open Content Program and follows a trend in the museum world towards opening up access to digital reproductions of works in the public domain. Patrons can download any of the images in this collection. They are "free to use, modify, and publish for any purpose"*. The Getty does plan to add to this collection over time, after vetting images for copyright and privacy restrictions.
As of spring 2013, the Yale community has access to a new resource called Drama Online. This database is produced by Bloomsbury Publishing and includes content from publishers like Faber & Faber, Arden Shakespeare, and Methuen Drama, with images from the V&A Museum’s Theatre and Performance Archives forthcoming.
