New Exhibit: Mandela 100

Exhibit case with three items related to Mandela from Yale library collections, a book, a photo and a poster.

In commemoration of the centennial of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela's birth on July 18, 1918, the Beinecke Library will have on view, in temporary exhibition cases on the mezzanine, three items related to Mandela from Yale library collections from July 13 - July 23, 2018. 

On view at the library from July 13 - July 23:

  • Photograph of Mandela at home in Soweto, December 1990, with Arthur Miller, by Inge Morath, for Magnum Photos; from the Inge Morath Photographs and Papers
  • Free Nelson Mandela, poster, color offset lithograph, United Nations Centre Against Apartheid, 1981, by Rupert Garcia; from Yale University Manuscripts & Archives, Immanuel Wallerstein Collection of African Liberation Movement Posters
  • Mandela: From the Life of the South African Statesman, picture book by Floyd Cooper, New York, 1996.

All are invited to a Mandela Day celebration on Wednesday, July 18, at 4:00 pm, to hear songs and the recorded words of Mandela, along with cake and light refreshments.
